Basketball Hall of Fame, Follow My Steps foundation partner up, putting on ‘Shooting for Success’ event

The Follow My Steps foundation and the Basketball Hall of Fame are partnering up for “Shooting for Success”, an event for young adults to experience diverse career fields, higher education and raise funds to support their schools and community centers by competing in basketball contests.

The event will run for two days, April 15th and 16th. The first day will be at Western New England University starting at 10 a.m., while the second day will be at the Basketball Hall of Fame, starting at 4 p.m..

The event will be broken into two parts, with the first part focusing on career mentorship.

Participants will explore various career and professional development fields, filling out their ‘Career Passports’ along the way. After collecting stamps from each industry, participants may enter the basketball court to collect shirts and begin the tournament.

In part two, participant teams will face off in a tournament style bracket. Thirty-two teams will compete and be narrowed down to two finalists as follows: (16 girl teams, 16 boy teams).

Two remaining finalists will advance to the finals: A championship game at The Basketball Hall of Fame. The grand prize for the 3-on-3 tournament is $3,000 to the winning team.

Fifty percent ($1,500) of the funds are given to the winning team in the form of a scholarship that will be divided evenly by team size. The remaining funds may be used to benefit the school’s athletics by acquiring new equipment or jerseys, attending competitions, or whatever best serves the appropriate team.

Volunteers are also needed for the event in event registration, school and community outreach, referee and team support, setup and breakdown for Day 1 & Day 2, parking attendants, marketing and fundraising support, mentor recruitment & signup, and youth recruitment & signup.
